Whenever guests arrive at your home, the front door is one of the first things they see. The front door is also a major component of your home’s curb appeal, and important for impressing prospective buyers. For these reasons and others, it’s important that you select a front door that adequately complements your home. Here are a few of the options you might encounter when shopping for an entry door:
Many doors are composed of several parts—stiles, or vertical parts; rails, or horizontal parts; mullions, or vertical parts between stiles and rails; and panels, which fill in the frames created by stiles, rails, and mullions. Doors come with panels of all sizes and arrangements. If you’re interested in a door with a bit of texture, consider one with panels.
In place of panels, some doors have windows framed by the mullions, stiles, and rails. You’ll also find doors that are more window than wood. Before your select a door with windows, think about whether you’re OK with people seeing into your home as they stand at the door. If not, you can always get a windowed door with frosted glass.
If you’re interested in a slightly different look, you might install a door with an arch. Doors come with all kinds of arches, from subtle, barely there arches to impressive, gothic arches.
To give your guests a grand entrance, you might consider an entryway with double doors. Double doors are especially impressive when designed with a cathedral arch. Combine your double doors with panels and windows to create a truly breathtaking threshold.
