How to Clean and Protect Finished Hardwood Floors

Few flooring options boast the timeless beauty of hardwood floors. However, hardwood floors require significant maintenance in order to retain their aesthetic. Still, maintenance can seem a lot less daunting if you follow a few simple guidelines.

Living Room

Instead of using a penetrating wax finish for your hardwood floors, you should opt for polyurethane, which is a surface finish. To limit the amount of dust and dirt that settles on your hardwood floor, you should place floor mats near all exterior doors. Experts recommend natural cloth mats, as a mat with a petroleum base may initiate a chemical reaction with your floor. Still, filth will inevitably accumulate—to keep your floor in good shape, you should vacuum from time to time and periodically go over the surface with a dust mop.
